Our Beginning: A Door Opens in 2020
The VG Bakery Cairns story begins with an unexpected detour that became divine direction. On the final day of a 2020 scouting trip, a door opened to purchase the Queen of Tarts bakery – no funds, no team, no plan, just faith. Within 30 minutes, a decision was made to step toward ministry in Cairns, trusting that where God leads, He provides.
August 2020 tested that trust: after 10 days and 10 rejections while seeking a base, the breakthrough finally arrived. In October, what was planned as a 10-day renovation was reduced to just four. With a long weekend, no supplies on hand, and a ticking clock, help arrived 4.5 hours away in Townsville. Back in Cairns, the team worked day and night. VG Bakery opened on 6 October 2020, a humble beginning covered in prayer and purpose.
Mission & Model: More Than a Bakery
VG Bakery operates under Vietnam Grace Limited, a registered Australian charity and purpose-driven social enterprise. The mission is clear: advance public and social welfare through sustainable business that creates dignified, secure employment – particularly for individuals facing systemic disadvantages, such as single mothers with school-age children.
Guided by Christian love and service – “Love the Lord and love each other” – VG Bakery Cairns is a ministry through enterprise. 100% of profits are reinvested into the social, community, and ministry initiatives of Vietnam Grace Church Brisbane, ensuring long-term community impact and spiritual enrichment.

From launch to 2025, VG Bakery Cairns grew by 140%, impacting thousands of lives and contributing over $100,000 toward public and social welfare. The numbers matter because they represent meals served, jobs supported, stories restored – and a community strengthened through everyday generosity.
Strategically, VG Bakery is part of a scalable, place-based plan: wherever Vietnam Grace Church plants a congregation, Vietnam Grace Limited aims to establish a locally operated business aligned with the church’s vision – combining transparency, reinvestment, and values-based partnership for genuine social impact.
Storms & Strength: Resilience in Cairns
Cairns is beautiful – and tough. Tropical cyclones, flash floods, and intense monsoonal rains disrupt supply chains, staffing, and safe operations. Through it all, God’s protection has been tangible.
• December 2023 – ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper: devastating floods struck North Queensland, damaging more than 1,000 homes north of Cairns – yet VG Bakery remained miraculously untouched.
• Early 2025 – severe monsoonal event: record-breaking rainfall brought tragic loss of life, and again the bakery was sustained, its mission kept alive.
In these seasons, VG Bakery Cairns stood not only as a business but as a place of welcome – where no one is turned away hungry. Warm food, friendly conversation, and practical help – including support for Indigenous neighbours – have been part of our daily witness. Along the way, public leaders, including the local MP and the Speaker of the House, Milton Dick (visit: 2 May 2023), affirmed the bakery’s role in the community.
Daily Life: Community, Work, and Worship
Between 2020 and 2025, two families sent from Brisbane shaped a rhythm of service, faith, and community. Mornings meant school drop-offs; days were spent shoulder-to-shoulder in the bakery; after school, kids pitched in – learning the joy of serving together. Sundays remained sacred through livestream fellowship with the Brisbane congregation while local seeds of faith were planted. Regular visits from Pastor Hoa offered spiritual care and guidance, keeping the work grounded in prayer.
The journey also included practical trials – flood clean-ups in the region, heavy-rain road hazards, and even break-ins in 2024. Yet dedication never wavered. Staff slept on-site during renovations, shared simple meals, and pressed on. What could have been delays became testimonies of unity, sacrifice, and faith in action.
“Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.” (Psalm 125:1)
Cairns & Cooktown Fellowships
Despite patchy internet and imperfect livestreams, the Cairns Fellowship stayed steadfast – rooted in the love of Christ, nurtured by genuine relationships, and encouraged through the ongoing support of Pastor Hoa and local leaders. Outreach grew, and the vision of establishing the first Vietnamese Christian church in Cairns came into focus.
Further north, the Cooktown/Lakeland Fellowship took shape among Vietnamese workers on banana and melon farms – an effort that required 2,500 km round trips and unwavering commitment. From early gatherings to indoor worship services (September 2024) and a series of baptisms (April–December 2024), the fellowship became a beacon: no distance is too great when sharing the love of Christ.
Leaders, Volunteers & Unsung Heroes
Behind every tray of fresh pies and loaves are leaders, volunteers, donors, and friends who quietly carried the work: Pastor Hoa My Trinh & Duc Truong, Narelle Ngo, Diem Nguyen, pastors, team members, families, and faithful supporters near and far. To every name on our “unsung heroes” list – and to the “little heroes” whose small hands helped pack, sweep, and smile – we couldn’t have done it without you.

The Next Five Years (2026 – 2030)
Looking ahead, Vietnam Grace Limited is committed to advancing a sustainable, purpose-driven enterprise that provides employment, discipleship, and dignity for the disadvantaged; establishing a spiritually vibrant Vietnamese Christian church in the Cairns–Cooktown region; and integrating business, ministry, and leadership into a holistic, Kingdom-minded movement across Queensland.
